blast from the past

Sometimes a layout comes together in a way totally different to what you were aiming for, and the shear quantity of pink on this layout of A is a case in point.
It’s a tale all about a ‘Mint Feast’ ice cream that he had at the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, it was a blast from the past for us both, I don’t think I’d seen one in at least 10 years, and on that cold, blustery, drizzling day we enjoyed those ice creams as much as we had done the same ones in our childhood.

silly numpty

I’m definitely in a place where I’m happy to stick stuff down onto layouts that I’ve been hoarding for years, like the doodlebug heart button (too precious to use for 8 years), and the Bazzill ribbon flower (saved for best since 2009).
I’m also glad to be using up stash so that I can actually justify buying more rather than it just getting lost in the piles. I know my layouts are no works of art, but I find the process very relaxing and a polar opposite of my work.
This is a generic layout, from the Northern Ireland album, but features how silly A and I are….

homeward bound

I’m still working through the photos from our trip around Northern Ireland, and I’m still merrily working with the two kits I made up.
It was such a good idea to mix together stash I would never have thought of combining. I’ve never subscribed to a kit, but if I ever run out of stash (yeah right) I would definitely go down the kit route.

capture

I had started making up another kit based around the Lemonade collection from Basic Grey, but I fell ill when I was last at home with my stash and only put a few things together. Wanting a change from the earth tones though, I grabbed the bits I’d put together and worked up this page, featuring A with his head chopped off and just a few of our many cameras.

wild & free

I’m working with the kit I made still, and I’m really amazed at how stuff I would never have thought is going together really well. This page has papers from both autumn and Christmas collections, as well as embellishments from a baby line! It all works though with this picture of the Antrim coast.

don't look down

Another using that kit I made up, and again it’s a hodgepodge of all ages of my stash.
Not the greatest photo, I didn’t have more than half a second to focus and take and no chance of a reshoot with the queue of people behind me, but it does give a little of the vertiginous feeling of the rope bridge.

december daily day 2

I’ve had a crazy few days beeping really busy at work and with no spare time to think, craft or sometimes even eat I got out of the rhythm of blogging. I’m going to try and get back into the swing of things again by sharing the facing page of Day 1 of my December Daily, pictures of A opening his advent calendar (the gloves because its cold in the university on a weekend).

december daily day 1

I had managed to prepare some of the bare bones of my December Daily 2012 back in November I think, but not having access to a way to get my photos printed meant that much of the album building actually got done between Christmas and New Year.
I had endeavoured to keep notes each day about what I had done, how I had felt and I have to say that in all I found this system worked really well for me. I think that this is the system I will continue into this year.
December 1st this year fell on a Saturday, so the album starts out in festive spirits with a shopping trip to White City and a fun band that was playing outside really put me in the Christmas mood.

december daily 2012

Front cover of my 2012 December Daily I’m finally at the point where I am just finishing this off and adding the final finishing touches…. I used a sn@p album with an assortment of the page protectors. In general I used Kaisercraft’s ‘Mint Twist’ collection, with a few extras from elsewhere. I found though that I was disappointed in this collection though, I will have to think more carefully what I want in my stash for this year. carrick-a-rede

It’s been a while since I’ve managed much scrapping, but I did manage to pack a couple of ‘kit’ boxes, which included the entire contents of this page.
The location is the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge in Northern Ireland, and the supplies from about 10 different companies! Including an Easter collection from Rusty Pickle and the fantastic Lemongrass collection from Crate Paper one of my first purchases ever (metal rimmed tag from the American Craft Simply Chic collection) and the last of about 8 packs of these amazing cork letters from Making Memories.

pretty

My interpretation of Shari Carroll’s card from Day 3 of Online Card Classes ‘Clean & Simple 2’ and I’m really pleased with it. It was super late when I was making this card last night and I must have spent 20 minutes trying to decide if to add another chevron strip (I didn’t) then more time faffing about whether to included a white dashed line Round the edge….
In another note, can I just say how cute I find these flowers, I picked them up in a bead shop in Aberdeen with no idea how I would use them, but they made it onto this card so it was totally a worthwhile purchase :P.

simple washi card

My adaptation of Jennifer’s card from day two of Online Card Classes ‘Clean & Simple 2’. I’m really not much of a stamper and those stamps I do have are not in the supply kit I currently have, but the inspiration I think is clear…
The sentiment was printed on my computer, the rest is just washi and a few scattered gems.

pinwheels

My card, based on a sketch somewhere between Kristina’s and Julie’s it definitely started out based on Kristina’s sketch… from day one of Clean & Simple 2.
Looking back I think the pinwheel is too big, but I was tires last night and didn’t spot that last night.

really bad lighting

I really wasn’t happy with this card, I think I cut the dotty paper a bit short… I didn’t want to abandon it and kept on adding and adding and I suppose it’s ok, but I’m not that pleased with the end result. In the other had it is a use of a seasonal paper in a nonseasonal setting. catching up with older stuff

So I’m in the city without any paper supplies, but was putting together a CHA wish list in my head and looking through old projects to look at the supplies I actually use…
My wish list, as always, includes a lot of Doodlebug Designs (I just wish it was easier to get in the uk), SN@P from simple stories, some of the Pebbles basics, but on the whole I’m planning on a bit of much needed stash busting!
With that in mind I’ve been making a few cards this one I made a few weeks ago but didn’t share:

fun with washi

Off into the city for the day, so I’m relaxing and getting to see A, but not really warming up for the online card class I’m taking…

Last night however I did manage to make another card using my washi tapes from doodlebug, this time a 4” square card, but I continued to use the ‘lovebirds’ stickers.

Stickers, washi: doodlebug designs
Card: stash

Now I’ve got a weekend of fun on the cards and so will hopefully have a few images to scrap soon. I’m just waiting for good conditions to photograph my December daily and then I will share that too!

playing with washi

I’ve had washi tape in my stash for a while but I’ve mainly used it as a temporary adhesive or along the edges of my silhouette cutting mats after they’ve been reconditioned. However when Doodlebug released their polka dot washi with their new ‘Lovebirds’ collection I thought I’d give it a go in my crafting… This is the first of the results from the 10 minutes of spare time I’ve managed this week.
